Stop The Lies: 10 Examples Why There Is No Such Thing As A Post-Racial America - Page 2

Progressive-minded Americans celebrated the historic election of the first African-American President of the United State in Barack Obama as the moment that America was becoming a theoretical “post-racial” society where race, discrimination and prejudice were things of the past. However, recent events—even Jay-Z has caught it—have proven otherwise. Hip-Hop Wired takes a look at 10 examples why a “post-racial America” is nothing more than a mythical fallacy.

The Killing Of Trayvon Martin – The February killing of Trayvon Martin drew deep lines in the sand, especially between African-American and Whites on both sides of the issue. The racial profiling of the 17-year-old by self-appointed Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman led to the fatal encounter that is still rocking the nation. Foolishly, talking heads and the like sought to paint Trayvon as a lawless thug when he was anything but.

Noose Hung Outside Alabama Nuclear Power Plant – Police are investigating a hate crime after finding a noose hanging outside the Browns Family Nuclear Plant in Athens, Ala. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident, although Tennessee Valley Authority CEO Tom Kilgore calls the noose finding an “isolated incident” – this after four previous nooses was found on the sight. Clearly, Mr. Kilgore believes in post-racial America.

Obama Doll Found Hanging From Noose In Georgia – In the town of Plains, a large Black doll meant to depict President Obama was found hanging from a noose with a sign that read, “Plains, Georgia. Home of our 39^th President Jimmy Carter” In 2010. Eyewitnesses said that the doll also wore a sign with Obama’s name and also featured a picture of the president on the face of the figure. The case was being investigated by Secret Service at the time.

Hateful Trayvon Martin Message Found On Electronic Road Sign – Michigan drivers were treated to an offensive term referencing slain Black teenager Trayvon Martin back in April. Motorists on the I-94 highway were assaulted by an electronic road sign with the message, “TRAYVON A NI—-.”  Authorities said someone with knowledge of the machines broke into a box containing a keyboard, erased warning signs, and typed the slur.

Racist Bake Sale At Berkeley College Does More Harm Than Good – Protesting organizers of a bake sale who sought to bring to attention to bill in California that would allow public universities to consider race, gender and geographic origin created an “Increase Diversity” cupcake drive last September to mock the considered measure. The Berkeley College Republicans created the sale which listed cupcakes for sale in where Whites paid more than Blacks and other races to highlight what they felt was the unfairness of the proposed bill. Their point, as assumed, was largely ignored.

Black Harvard Professor Becomes Victim Of Racial Profiling – Henry Louis Gates Jr., one of American’s leading scholars, was arrested July 2009 at his Cambridge home after police came to investigate Professor Gates’ residence for a possible break-in. After producing identification and proof he lived in the home, Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct after confronting the officer who clearly didn’t respect the professor’s distinction and position. The foolish charge was eventually dropped.

UCLA Professor Files Suit After Suffering Racial Humiliation – Dr. Christian Head, an otolaryngologist at UCLA, filed suit against the school after suffering years of racial torment and being told to endure the attacks. At an annual roast of professors, an image of a gorilla being sodomized featuring Dr. Head’s face and his supervisor lead him to bring the suit about, and he alleges the school has barred him from teaching in retaliation.

Trayvon Martin Gun Range Targets Sell Out In 48 Hours – Need further proof that “post-racial America” is a farce? Look no further than the unidentified entrepreneur in Orlando who created gun targets in the likeness of Trayvon Martin, and supported Zimmerman by calling the slain teen a “thug” on an online advertisement. The creator of the target’s main goal was to “make money” according to reports.

Justice Dept. Sues Bigoted Arizona Sheriff Who Racially Profiled Latinos – Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio was sued in May by the Justice Department after allegations that his department unlawfully targeted Latinos became too large to ignore. Negotiations between Arpaio and other law officials hit a snag, prompting the lawsuit. Arpaio has openly defied the Feds and has been accused of being tougher on Spanish-speaking and dark-skinned citizens of the state.

NYPD Anti-Gun Task Force Targets Black Suspects, Calling Them ‘Animals’ – The ongoing controversy involving racial profiling in New York hit a fever pitch last month when allegations were made against a NYPD anti-gun unit and the racist tone set by its captain. A federal lawsuit brought by Det. Debra Lawson in March revealed that the unit captain James Coan routinely used the N-word and instructed White officers to shoot Black suspects in the head.
