Fans of the 90’s music scene have known about Darius Rucker for quite some time.

Loved by many as the man known as “Hootie” from his days as the front man for classic 90’s alternative rock band Hootie and the Blowfish, Rucker is now paving a way for himself in an entirely different musical lane after being awarded the Country Music Association Awards honor for best new artist.

His album, Learn to Live, sold more that one million copies, affording Rucker the honor of being the first Black singer to win the award at the CMAA’s.

His historic accomplishment puts him in the company of the legendary Charley Pride, the only other Black singer to win a major individual award.
