Keith Bardwell, the Louisiana judge that made headlines after refusing to marry an interracial couple has officially resigned. The judge whose tenure extends over a 34 year period gave up his robe after receiving heat for turning away Beth Humphrey and Terry McKay. Beth is a white woman and Terry is a black man.
Now weeks later, justice for the court justice is being served.
The judge sent out a one sentence long resignation letter to the Louisiana Secretary of State saying,
“I do hereby resign the office of Justice of the Peace for the Eighth Ward of Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, effective November 3, 2009.”
This is not the first couple he’s refused to marry. Bardwell claims that in the last 2 ½ years, he’s denied at least four interracial couples.
