The lives of two young Black teens has forever been altered with neither being for the better.

Nnonso Ekwegbalu has revealed himself to be the mysterious gunman that cut short the promising life of 13-year-old Kevin Miller as he departed from an area where a fight was taking place.

“We do have an arrest of the shooter, and he’s made statements,” said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly of the 16-year-old murderer.

Both teenagers were students at Humanities and the Arts Magnet High School in the Cambria Height section of New York.

Ekwegbalu has formally been charged with second degree murder as well as a lesser charges of criminal possession of a firearm and second degree assault. With no prior infractions on record, Ekwegbalu is still facing sentencing that would see him serve a sentence of either 25 years in prison to life.

Speaking on the incident, Mayor Michael Bloomberg took get in a politically based plea, using the media to lobby for more stringent gun control laws.

“I don’t know when we’re going just as a society [to] finally say enough is enough…I don’t know what we have to do to get people to understand guns shouldn’t be in the hands of children.”

Video footage showed that Miller was struck in the head by a stray bullet as he walked into a local McDonald’s near his school. He was merely an innocent bystander that was in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”

This was only his Freshman year in high school.
