The Forgotten Artists Of YMCMB
With Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj sitting atop rap as three of the top selling artists in Hip-Hop, Cash Money/ Young Money Records is arguably the leading Hip-Hop label in rap music today.
But the house that Brian “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams built didn’t climb this mountain overnight.
It has been a long hard road for YMCMB to take it’s place as a dominant rap label in the game.
Over the years, some artists have come, some artists have gone, but they all have a place in the Cash Money/Young Money legacy.
Today, we’re taking a look back at Cash Money’s run, as we remember the lost ones of YMCMB.

B.G.
If it wasn’t for Baby Gangsta, Cash Money probably wouldn’t be where they are today. Their were other Cash Money artists before B.G., but he was the first one to buzz regionally.
B.G. would go on to join Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Turk and Lil Wayne in the Cash Money group, the Hot Boys.
He later left the label over a financial dispute.
Juvenile
Another member of the Hot Boys, it was Juvenile’s hit single “Huh,” that brought Cash Money national attention, and led to a historic deal with Universal Records.
Juve later left Cash Money, and started his own label, UTP Records.
Turk
The least known member of the Hot Boys, Turk is currently serving 14 years in prison for shooting a police officer.
Mannie Fresh
As Cash Money’s in-house producer, and Birdman’s Big Tymers group member, Mannie Fresh, gave Cash Money their signature sound that swept the nation.
Magnolia Shorty
The first lady of Cash Money, Magnolia Shorty joined CM in the early ’90’s. She was shot and killed in New Orleans in 2010.
TQ
This R&B singer had success prior to joining Birdman’s team. He recorded an album under Cash Money, but it was never released.
Gillie Da Kid
The former member of the Philly group, Major Figgas, joined Cash Money in 2002, but his only contribution was claiming to be Weezy’s ghostwriter.
Boo
Formerly of the group Boo & Gotti, signed to R. Kelly’s label, Boo didn’t do much for Cash Money except appear in a few videos, and spark the reaction, “Hey, ain’t that the guy from…?”
Lil Mo
Lil Mo recorded one album on Cash Money, which was never released.
Mikkey Halsted
This Chi-town MC appeared on a few Cash Money songs, but due to a dispute with Baby, his deal with the label didn’t work out.
Mack 10
West Coast rapper Mack 10 released his 2001 album, Bang or Ball, on Cash Money. He still manages a relationship YMCMB, but has his own label, Hoo-Bangin’ Records.
Glasses Malone
Mack 10’s protege maintains that his album is coming out through Cash Money, but he’s been saying that since 2006.
T-Boz
The former TLC member reportedly signed to Cash Money in 2011, but hasn’t been heard from since.
Curren$y
One of the original signees of Wayne’s Young Money imprint. Spitta later left YM, and is doing pretty good for himself. Jets, fool.
Kidd Kidd
Another original Young Money artist, Kidd Kidd was featured on “Mrs. Officer” from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, but left the label shorty after. He’s currently working with Sha Money XL.
Omarion
The former front man of B2K, Omarion got out of his deal with Young Money before the ink on the contract dried. He was taken off the label’s hit single “Bed Rock” and replaced by Lloyd.
