John Mayer got the ultimate hood pass by both appearing on Chappelle’s Show and collaborating with Common. Then in 2010, he opened his mouth in a Playboy interview and compared his penis to former Klu Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.
Young Justin Bieber got cosigns from Usher, Raekwon, L.A. Reid and others. It was all good until a video surfaced of him singing a racist folk song. Surprisingly, his hood pass remains intact.
Robin Thicke might have jacked Marvin Gaye with “Blurred Lines” and tried to countersue Gaye’s estate when called on said jacking. His super fine wife, Paula Patton, served him papers, so Thicke now finds himself in an interesting position.
When Nas, Russell Simmons and Jay Z convinced Black Twitter to fall back after Gwyneth Paltrow dropped an N-bomb on camera, we all got confirmation her hood pass remained intact.
In 2003, audio surfaced of a 17-year-old Eminem using the type of racist lyrics that gets hood passes permanently revoked. He acknowledged it, and after a brief uproar, life resumed as usual.
Beneath all the jokes about being the “first black president,” Bill Clinton aired out Sister Souljah and caught some heat for his welfare reform bill. The $34 million his Clinton Foundation raised for Haiti probably got his pass back in the good graces.
Miley Cyrus is cutting it close. She had a ball appropriating Black culture working with Mike WiLL Made-It and grinding her flat cheeks against everything in sight. Wearing that fake, cartoonish butt should be considered grounds for hood pass revocation.
Peter Rosenberg threw serious shade at Nicki Minaj during the 2012 Summer Jam. Then he had the audacity to disrespect Chuck D. Consider his dry snitching on Wiz Khalifa about allegedly bedding a pair of twins while still with Amber Rose strike three.
Yelawolf was one of the dozen or so white rappers goaded into responding to Lord Jamar’s infamous VladTV comments. He didn’t help things much by posing a series of Instagram pictures of himself with the Confederate Flag.
V-Nasty was given a pass by Mistah F.A.B. for seeming way too comfortable saying a certain N-word. The mild controversy calmed down, but it appears Vanessa is going to keep saying whatever she feels.
The amount of people unhappy with Iggy Azalea has been well documented. How many times can T.I. save her?
